Summary

The Speech Pathology and Audiology (SPAUD) department at Calvin University launched a peer mentoring program in 2020 aimed at (1) improving retention, (2) increasing support, and (3) increasing a sense of belonging for BIPOC, international, first-generation, and third-culture students in the department. The program incorporates faculty support, pre-program training, and goal-directed tasks as guided by a curriculum. The program also explores DEI topics related to the field as well as virtues in community and teamwork such as hospitality, stewardship, humility, advocacy, and commitment.
